Our story

We built the company we wished existed.

Yalla is a ride-sharing platform built around one stubborn idea: the person behind the wheel keeps what the wheel earns. This is how we got here โ€” and why the cars say YALLA.

A Tuesday night and a kitchen table

It started the way most honest things do โ€” with someone who was tired. A driver we know finished a twelve-hour day, parked the car, and sat at the kitchen table with a notebook. He wrote down every fare he had taken that day. Then he drew one line through a third of them. That was the platform's cut.

The fuel had already been paid. The insurance, the worn tyres, the hours his children spent without him โ€” none of that moved when the line was drawn. He wasn't angry at the technology. He was angry that nobody had ever explained why the line existed.

Someone had to pay for the map, the servers, the support desk. Fine. But thirty percent of a Tuesday night, forever, simply because he had pressed a button inside someone else's app? That number had no owner and no explanation. We wrote it down too โ€” not as a complaint, but as a question: what would this business look like if the driver were the customer instead of the source of commission?

02

The line everybody had accepted

For years the industry told the same story with different numbers: fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, sometimes thirty percent of every fare โ€” and that is simply how it works. The driver is called a partner in the marketing and treated as inventory in the contract. A fleet owner pays for the privilege of feeding his own cars into someone else's funnel.

Nobody questioned the model because the model was invisible. It hid inside a per-ride number that changed every day, in every city, with every surge โ€” so nobody ever added it up. But drivers do. In notebooks, at kitchen tables, in the same words, over and over.

When we finally added it up for a small fleet of ten cars, the result was absurd: those drivers were paying more each month than a small software company pays for its office โ€” and receiving a wrap, a logo and a queue in return.

03

So we flipped the line

Instead of taking a slice of every fare, we charge one fixed, published price per driver company: 750ย RON a month, under an ordinary B2B contract, with an invoice you can put in your books. Nothing is hidden inside the fare, and nothing grows when a good week happens.

The driver keeps every leu, every euro of the trip โ€” one hundred percent. Not as a slogan, but as the arithmetic of the platform. There is no commission to audit, no surge bonus to decode, no weekly statement to argue about.

And because the fee is fixed, our success looks different. We win when a company stays because the tools are worth keeping โ€” the map, the dispatch, the document checks, the billing โ€” not because a driver had nowhere else to go. Lock-in is not a business model; it is a hostage.

โ€œA driver does not need a better commission. He needs no commission.โ€

Why the cars say YALLA

YALLA is the word you hear when somebody finally decides to move. It means "come on" โ€” and it belongs to every language our drivers speak, from the taxi rank to the border crossing.

So we put it on the cars. A car in YALLA livery is not an advertisement, it is a badge. It says: this driver is verified, his documents have been checked, his company pays its subscription, and the money in this meter stays with him.

We wanted the wrap to mean something a passenger can feel. When you see YALLA turning the corner, you already know the rules of the ride before the doors open.

Four apps, one road

A ride is not one screen. It is four people at the same moment, and for years they were each shown a different version of the truth.

The rider gets a map, a driver's name, a live position and a receipt that arrives when the trip ends. The driver sees requests instead of a black box, and a statement that shows he kept everything. The fleet partner manages drivers, vehicles, insurance and contract papers in one place, so an expired document never reaches the street. The admin sees what is happening right now: live rides, documents waiting for approval, subscriptions that have lapsed.

All four were built in one codebase, in two languages โ€” English and Romanian โ€” because a platform that the person using it cannot read is not a platform. It is a wall.

06

What we refuse

Any company can write values on a wall. These are the ones that cost us money, which is the only test that counts.

We refuse commission on fares, even when a fleet is large and the temptation is exactly proportional. We refuse dark patterns: no surge theatre, no fake scarcity, no "one driver left" counters. We refuse to let a driver work whose documents were never checked, and we refuse to let a company whose subscription has expired keep dispatching โ€” because that is how a platform quietly stops being fair.

And we refuse to pretend we are finished. The map is real, the rides are real, the accounts are real. Card payments and daily exchange rates are being wired in, and we would rather say that out loud than bury it in a footnote.

07

Where this is going

The plan is not to be everywhere. It is to be deeply useful in the places where the math still does not add up for a driver โ€” Romania, Moldova and the countries around them, where a family lives or dies by the price of fuel.

Next: real card payments for the monthly subscription, invoices that reconcile themselves, live exchange rates so a driver always sees his money in his own currency, and a shared-ownership programme that lets ten drivers buy a car together without anyone paying ten percent of their labour for the privilege.

We would like you in that story. If you drive, if you run a fleet, or if you are simply tired of the line in the notebook โ€” come and see what a ride looks like when nobody takes a cut.

One price, published

750ย RON a month per company, under a B2B contract. The number is on the website before you ever talk to us.

Verified or not driving

No driver works until the documents are checked. No company dispatches while its subscription has lapsed.

Two languages, no walls

Everything a rider, driver, partner or admin sees exists in English and Romanian โ€” not just the marketing pages.

No dark patterns

No surge theatre, no countdown pressure, no fees that appear at the end of the trip.

Where we are now

  1. Live now

Real rides and a real map

Streets, routes, distance and fare come from live map data, not a drawn demo.

  2. Live now

    Real accounts

Riders, drivers and partners sign up with email confirmation; trips and documents are saved.

  3. Coming soon

    Card payments and invoices

The monthly subscription paid by card, with invoices a finance person can file.

  4. Next

    Daily exchange rates

Prices shown in the official currency of the country you pick, refreshed every day.

Come and see it

Open any of the four apps and take a real ride. There is nothing to negotiate and nothing hidden in the fare โ€” that is the whole point.
